With the journey of the traditional 'Shreephal' (the sacred coconut) worshipped at Late Purshottam Keni's house on April 30 commencing its journey to Zambavali (Zambaulim) late evening on Thursday to reach its destination Zambavali the same night, it blew the bugle for commencement of the traditional 'Gulalotsav' at Lord Shree Damodar Devasthan, Zambavali.
The procession of the Shreephal to Zambavali commenced from Comba via Shree Damodar temple at old market via Abade Faria Road and State Bank of India onwards to MMC square from where it embarked on its journey to Zambavali late Thursday evening.
With a host of cultural programmes lined up at Lord Shree Damodar Devasthan, Zambavali to mark Gulalotsav celebrations, with the main day's event - 'Gulal' - on April 5 to be held at the holy precincts of this temple. The celebrations will conclude with the 'Dhulpeth' to be held on the subsequent day, April 6.
The celebrations, held under the aegis of Mathagramastha Hindu Sabha, witnesses the participation of devotees from most parts of South Goa, with devotees of Lord Shree Damodar flocking to the temple from places like North and South Canara (Karnataka).
Residents of the State's commercial capital - Margao - pay obeisance to Lord Shree Damodar and the city will down its shutters for the latter part of the day on 'Gulal' (April 5) where the residents will flock to Zambavali to partake in the event.
