Concerned about the many road mishaps along the roads at Gulem, Dumane and Agonda, the Shrishthal Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) has demanded warning signs on both sides of the roads to protect motorists and animals from mishaps.
Shrishthal BMC Chairman Vinay Tubki submitted a memorandum to this effect to the Range Forest Officer Devidas Velip at Pissonem Range in Padi, in the presence of Shirish Pai, Tejas Naikgaunkar and Pratap Naikgaunkar of the BMC.
Several motorists are known to hit animals like deer scampering across roads in Gulem, Dumane and Agonda, causing injuries to two-wheeler riders and animals
“The road beginning at the foot of the Karmalghat and towards Agonda village has witnessed a lot of wild animals, especially deer, peacocks and wild fowl. Often, these animals suddenly come on the road and are struck by the vehicles, causing them injury and even death, besides damage to vehicles,” said Shirish Pai of the Shristhal BMC.
“It is high time that authorities install signboards alerting motorists about the presence of wild animals in the area.”
