The Shristhal gram sabha members granted preliminary but conditional "go-ahead" signal to the Shristhal Comunidade to approach the government to set up IIT-Goa campus in the village.
Interestingly, the Shristhal gram sabha on Sunday was centered only on one issue of an application received from Shristhal Comunidade intimating about its intention to allot its land of approximately 14.6 lakh sq mtrs (IIT requirement is about 11 lakh) between Shristhal and Nuvem.
Member Shirish Pai explained the propo
sal, as a group of youngsters from a certain location raised objections and reservations on housing IIT in the village. During discussions, some members began to explain the advantages and also disadvantages if IIT is housed in the village and also engaged the opposing group in discussion.
Later, though no resolution was passed, it is preliminarily agreed to allow IIT in Shristhal village subject to solutions on some four major issues which are no negative impact but improvements of electricity and water supply, no grazing land should be concretised/blocked, traditional pathways should be intact and no whatsoever endangering of Kumeri land/cultivation.
On the top, when comunidade's government approach gets positive nod, a technical person should visit the village and explain the villagers on pros and cons of the IIT campus, before any resolution can be proposed in the gram sabha.
The customary approval of budget (income and expenditure) was presented and approved at the gram sabha.
Members who took part in the discussion are Panch Ramu Naik, Deputy Sarpanch Vidya Gayak, Shirish Pai, Raju Bhagat, Damodar Chari, Devendra Tubki, Abhay Rane, former sarpanch Bhanudas Naik Gaonkar, former sarpanch Prashant Dessai, Rajesh Gaonkar, Nitesh Velip, among few others.
Sarpanch Devendra Naik, Deputy Sarpanch Vidhya Gayak and all the other five panchas were present, besides Panchayat Secretary Sandeep Dessai.
