The Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) began work to repair the road at Desterro, following complaints by locals that several potholes had developed due to sewage works recently undertaken by a contractor appointed by SIDCGL.
Taking cognisance of a report in The Goan on June 23 highlighting the problem faced by locals, SIDGCL placed barricades all along the road to indicate the patch work being undertaken on several potholes which were left behind by the sewage work, posing a danger to motorists using the road.
In its report, The Goan had highlighted the issue after citizens faced an awkward choice between better sewage network or improved roads along the road between Ravindra Bhavan and Desterro Chapel in Baina. The potholes had caused three mishaps in a few days, as motorists had failed to sight the potholes in time.
Locals had complained that the contractor who had taken up the work for nearly two months had left behind potholes near the chambers. They had demanded that the contractor be held accountable for the potholes and undertake the necessary patchwork on the roads after the sewage work was completed.
