Siddesh Naik, the Cumbharjua Zilla Panchayat member and son of Union Minister Shripad Naik, was elected unopposed as chairman of North Goa Zilla Panchayat on Monday,
The BJP had nominated Siddesh, who is currently State Secretary of the BJP, after the post had fallen vacant with the resignation of Kartik Kudnekar in April.
"The victory was possible as I had the support of my party and all ZP members,” said Naik, after being elected as chairman of North Goa ZP .
Congratulating Siddesh Naik on his election as chairman of North Goa Zilla Panchayat, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed confidence that Naik would “lead and take ahead the movement of development with the aim of Antyodaya.”
Meanwhile, Naik demanded more power and funds for Zilla Panchayats and said he would put forth the demand before the State government.
“I will approach the State government to ensure more powers and funds are given to the Zps,” said Siddesh Naik.
Naik also said he woulf work towards the completion of the ZP Bhavan project and to ensure uniform development is done in all constituencies.
Meanwhile, bye-elections for the three vacant ZP seats will be held along with Panchayat elections.
