In a major development, the death of a 53-year-old security guard in Siolim, first treated as an unnatural death, has now been confirmed as murder after the post-mortem report.

The deceased, Sushant Palyekar, a resident of Dando in Siolim, was found lying under a tree at Costa Vaddo, where he worked as a security guard. His body was discovered near a mango tree on the property he was assigned to watch.

Sources said the post-mortem revealed that Palyekar died due to asphyxiation caused by compression of the neck, indicating he was deliberately suffocated.

The findings rule out any natural cause of death and clearly point to foul play.

Earlier, Anjuna police had registered the case as an unnatural death. Following the autopsy report, the case is now expected to be converted into a murder investigation.

Family members had from the beginning raised doubts about the circumstances of his death, insisting it was not natural. The post-mortem findings have now supported their claims.

Police said further investigation is under way to identify those responsible. Officials are likely to examine all angles, including the victim’s work and any possible disputes or enmities.
