The Benaulim Block Congress Committee has raised concerns over proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
Leaders Keith Gracias, Solan Furtado and Luiza Rodrigues said the Bill could give sweeping powers to a designated authority to seize, manage or dispose of assets and funds of organisations registered under the Act, including churches and educational institutions whose licences have been cancelled, surrendered or expired.
They warned that the provisions could adversely affect minority institutions and disrupt their functioning.
The committee has urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take up the issue with the Central Government and seek withdrawal of the proposed amendments in the interest of minority communities.
