The Siolim-Marna gram sabha on Sunday demanded the clearing of rubble and repairing of roads dug up by the electricity department while carrying out the underground power cabling work in the village.
The locals also raised the issue of illegal parking of vehicles, especially buses on public roads and urged the panchayat to direct the owners to remove these vehicles.
A resident of Siolim-Marna Joaquim Barros informed the gram sabha that due to the ongoing underground cabling work, several roads were dug up in the village inconveniencing the people.
“While the cable laying work is complete in some areas, the mud and rubble are yet to be cleared. Much of the mud has also flowed into the stormwater drains which needs to be cleared or else it will create problems during the rains,” said Barros.
Siolim sarpanch Sharmila Vernekar assured the villagers to take up the issue with the electricity department officials and get the work done on priority.
At least three months ago, the electricity department had taken up the work of shifting the 11 KV high tension (HT) power lines underground in the village.
The contractor had dug up several roads to carry out the work causing a lot of inconvenience to the locals.
Locals also demanded action against parking of vehicles on public roads especially buses at Tarchi bhat, Siolim which blocks the entrance to residential houses.
“The parking of vehicles on public roads has become a nuisance to motorists and pedestrians. The traffic police should take up the matter and impound all these vehicles,” a gram sabha member said.
The gram sabha members informed that most of the chicken centres were not giving away their garbage to the waste contractor and asked the panchayat to look into the matter.
A local Fatima Fernandes said most of the fields were rendered uncultivable due to water stagnation, especially near the Gaunsa vaddo area.
Panchayat member William Fernandes informed that water from the Tillari canal was flowing into the fields and getting accumulated in the area due to which the farmers could not cultivate the fields.
“We are taking up the matter with the Tillari authorities to resolve the problem,” Fernandes said.
The gram sabha gave a go-ahead to the budget proposals for the 2023-24 fiscal.

The Siolim-Marna gram sabha on Sunday unanimously resolved to oppose the diversion of the Mhadei river waters and decided to forward the resolution to the Chief Minister, WRD Minister and the other concerned authorities.
