Siolim ward to take call on ZP poll boycott as PWD brings material for new pipeline

MAPUSA
The threat by locals in Gude-Siolim to boycott the ZP polls on Saturday as a mark of protest against constant water supply problems appeared to have the desired result, with the State government assuring to resolve the issue and PWD even bringing the required material to lay a new pipeline in the area.

Following this new development, locals in Gude have now convened a meeting on Friday evening to take a final decision on whether or not to boycott the upcoming ZP elections.

The locality has been facing acute water shortage throughout the year and despite highlighting the issue, locals accused the PWD of not taking any action.

The locals then convened three meetings to discuss the matter, before finally deciding to boycott the ZP polls as a mark of protest.

In a bid to pacify the unhappy locals, PWD water supply engineer Nitin Nevrekar met them and assured to resolve the problem once code of conduct is over.

The locals were, however, sceptical of his assurance and decided to continue with their agitation by boycotting the polls.

The PWD then brought the required materials, including pipes, to lay a new pipeline and has been supplying water through tankers to the affected villagers.
