Siridao without sarpanch, dy

OLD GOA

Siridao panchayat will be without a sarpanch and deputy sarpanch as Melanie D’Souza was ousted as deputy sarpanch by 4-0 votes in a no-confidence motion on Tuesday.

All the four signatories -- Vasudev Kunkolienkar, Jagdish Gauns, Kush Palkar and Nutan Shirodkar -- voted in favour of the motion.

Two panchas, Antonio Afonso and Camilo Marques, remained present but walked out before the motion was taken up, while D’Souza remained absent.

With the ouster of the deputy sarpanch, the Siridao panchayat will be without both the sarpanch and deputy as Jagdish Gauns was recently ousted as sarpanch, after the High Court upheld the no-confidence motion passed against him which was held outside the panchayat.

That time, panch Kunkolienkar had joined three other panchas, Antonio Afonso, Camilo Marques and Melanie D’Souza, to move the no-confidence motion against Gauns.

However, within two months Kunkolienkar switched sides and joined hands with Jagdish Gauns, Kush Palkar and Nutan Shirodkar to move a no-confidence motion against deputy sarpanch D’Souza, throwing the Siridao VP politics in turmoil.
