BJP-backed sarpanch, dy ousted in Socorro

PORVORIM

The BJP suffered a setback when the party-backed Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar and Deputy Sarpanch Vaishally Satardekar were voted out of office in a no-confidence motion passed by 6-0 votes in the 11-member panchayat on Tuesday.

At a special meeting, those voting in favour of the motion were Anil Pednekar, Sandeep Manjrekar, Reshma Morajkar, Maya Keni, Sanjay Pednekar and Rovlu Parsekar, while Vazarkar, Satardekar and three other panchas -- Dittosa Lobo, Sheetal Arolkar and Kirti Kudnekar did not attend the meeting.

The six panchas had accused Vazarkar of encouraging illegal constructions, failing to take panch members into confidence on developmental issues and misusing powers.

Shirish Kumar Tari was the presiding officer at the special meeting and he was assisted by Panchayat Secretary Satish Gawas.

Later speaking to media persons, Anil Pednekar, who was instrumental in moving the no-confidence motion against Vazarkar and Satardekar said there had been no development in the village over the last three years.

“Vazarkar has been accused of irregularities and an FIR has been lodged against him at the Mapusa police station. Hence, the panch members were forced to move a no-confidence motion against him,” said Pednekar.

Had advised Vazarkar to step down: MLA

PORVORIM

Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said developmental activities would get a boost while problems faced by residents of Socorro would be resolved soon, following the ouster of Socorro Sandeep Vazarkar and Deputy Sarpanch Vaishally Satardekar in a no-confidence motion.

Speaking to media persons, Khaunte mentioned that like-minded panchas have come together to form the panchayat body following the panchayat elections in 2017.

“I had offered support to the body. However, I noticed that sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar was accused of irregular activities and I had advised Vazarkar to step down.”

“Instead, Vazarkar preferred to join the BJP along with five other panchas and formed his separate ruling group. However, one member of his ruling group revolted and joined the other five members in moving a no-confidence motion against the sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch," said Khaunte.

“Now, development activities will get momentum and problems of water supply, underground cabling work and hot mixing of the roads of Socorro will be resolved soon,” said Khaunte.
