Siridao youth arrested with around 2 kg of alleged ganja

PANAJI

The arrest of a 20-year-old from Siridao ascertained the involvement of youth in drug trafficking and its availability in the interiors of the State.

The Crime Branch (CB) sleuths arrested Clismon Pires with flowering and fruiting tops of the cannabis plant, suspected to be ganja from the tiny village after a raid conducted on Sunday night.

CB SP Nidhin Valsan informed the media that Pires had concealed the contraband in his two-wheeler.

The weight of the recovered suspected ganja is around 2.06 kg value of which is estimated at Rs 2.10 lakh in the international market, he said.

Several ruling and opposition legislators have raised concerns about Goan youth increasingly getting addicted to drugs and the narcotics' easy availability in jails, educational institutions and interior villages other than the coastal belt.
