Site for new Sancoale police station unfit: P’yats Minister

Claiming that the site identified for the new police station at Sancoale is unfit, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday said he would speak to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the DGP not to shift the police station to the area.

Godinho was speaking to reporters in the presence of Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar and other panch members after inaugurating the temporary premises where the Sancoale Panchayat would be shifted till a new Panchayat Ghar is built.

"The site proposed at Sancoale is unfit for a new police station and the police station will not be shifted there. In fact, a new police station should be centrally located and it has to be placed between all present police outposts.”

“If at all there is need for a new police station, it has to be somewhere between Verna police stations and Zuarinagar and Dabolim police outposts.”

The minister said there is no question of having a new police station when all sarpanchas and panchayats are opposed to the site.

Commenting on the temporary Sancoale Panchayat premises, Godinho said the Sancoale panchayat has taken permission to build a new Panchayat Ghar.

“However, this project along with the new Cortalim Market complex got stalled. This project has now gone forward after the donation of land under CSR by Anand Bose, which will be taken up at a cost of Rs 7 crore.”

“The panchayat will spend its funds of Rs 4 crore. The remaining funds of around Rs 3.5 crore will be given by the government, of which Rs 3 crore will be for the building and Rs 50 lakh will remain in the account for maintenance of the building under Deendayal Infrastructure Development Scheme.”

“The foundation stone for the new Panchayat Ghar will be laid within a month, after which works will immediately start," Godinho added.
