MAPUSA
The sixth accused involved in group clashes during Holi celebration in Colvale was arrested on Wednesday morning, even as a Mapusa court has remanded the accused to five days in police custody.
Police has registered an offence against the accused under several sections of the IPC, including assault, rioting, house trespass and criminal intimidation.
Mapusa Police arrested Aryan Jahagir as the sixth member of the group in connection with the assault on four persons at Gotinocho Val, Colvale.
Police has also registered a cross-complaint against the other group, but no arrests were made from that group so far.
The accused, Arman Manikar, in his cross-complaint said he and his cousin were passing by the roadside when Mahesh Gaonkar, Dharmendra Shina and R Pujari restrained them and smeared colour on them against their wishes.
Meanwhile, all the six accused were produced before the JMFC court in Mapusa which remanded them to five days police custody.
Police has registered an offence against the six accused under Sections 143, 147, 148, 451, 504, 341, 326, 324, 427, 354 and 506/2 r/w 149 of Indian Penal Code.
Based on the cross-complaint, an offence has been registered against Mahesh Gaonkar and his friends under Section 341, 504, 323 and 506/2 of the IPC.
It may be recalled that clashes broke between two groups on Tuesday evening over smearing of colour during Holi celebration at Ganesh Nagar, Colvale.
One group led by Arman Manikar with four others assaulted Mahesh Gaonkar and his friends for smearing colour on him by dragging them and their wives out of the house.
Police rushed to the site and rounded up Arman Manikar and his friends Mohammed Vali, Mohammed Ali, Vishal Jadhav, and Mehboob Shaikh.
Mahesh Gaonkar, who sustained injuries during the attack, was admitted at the North Goa District Hospital, where he is recuperating.
Since the area is dominated by people of the minority community, a huge police force was deployed at the spot last night.
Mapusa PI Tushar Lotlikar and DySP Edwin Colaco had also rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
