A scheme to impart training to rural Goan youth in the Khadi and village industries sector will soon be launched in Goa to enable the unemployed to set up their own ventures for self-employment.

The “Scheme for Imparting Training under Khadi & Village Industries Sector 2018” is expected to be notified soon after it was passed in the cabinet meeting held at Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s private residence at Dona Paula on Thursday.

Groups of 20 candidates will be imparted training for a duration of up to 25 days and five such batches will be conducted each year. The trainees will be paid a stipend of around Rs 100 a day and they will also be provided all training material and refreshments during the training period.

A budget of about Rs 10-lakhs will be earmarked for the scheme and the successful trainees will be provided assistance for self-employment or setting up a venture through a scheme implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Board or any of the government department.

A three-member committee comprising GKVIB chief executive officer, Director of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission and a representative of Industries, Trade and Commerce Department will scrutinise applications and select applicants for the training. This three-member committee will also formulate the training schedule and modules.

The government said the scheme has been introduced because not a single Khadi production unit has come up in Goa. KVIB has assisted more than 7000 unites under the village industries sector since its inception in

the State in 1982.
