SMEs are the driving force behind creating a new economy, said global CEO advisor Prof. Ram Charan while addressing entrepreneurs, business leaders and professionals at the Leadership Conclave on “Leadership That Delivers”, organised by WPU Goa in association with BNI Goa Region.

The conclave, aimed at strengthening leadership and entrepreneurship among SMEs, reflected WPU Goa’s commitment to industry engagement and capacity building. Prof. Charan, who continues to mentor and advise the university, stressed that learning should constantly increase an individual’s capacity to grow, lead and adapt in a changing business environment.

He advised entrepreneurs to focus on clarity, execution and long-term conviction, urging them to prioritise a few key goals rather than spreading efforts too thin. He also highlighted the importance of building systems and processes, delegating responsibilities, automating operations and embracing digitalisation to achieve sustainable growth. Prof. Charan encouraged founders to recruit talented professionals who can strengthen organisations and help them grow beyond the founder’s individual capabilities. He also addressed common SME challenges such as financing, attracting skilled talent, delegation and resistance to change, emphasising disciplined leadership and continuous learning.

WPU Goa founder Dr Rahul Karad said universities must become centres of national transformation and help shape future generations through value-based education. Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Ashish Bhardwaj described Goa as a vibrant economy that blends global thinking with local wisdom and reiterated the university’s commitment to supporting the state’s social and economic development.

The event also featured Leadership Excellence Awards and sessions by industry leaders Sunil Kaul and Ashwini Malhotra.
