Local residents of Pajifond and motorists travelling on the old Hospicio hospital road have complained of smoke odour emanating from a low-lying area playing host to vegetation and old trees adjoining the compound wall of the rear side of Holy Spirit cemetery.

On close scrutiny, inquisitive residents have pointed out that someone has put fire to the area to clear the vegetation or the fire which must have started for reasons unknown have spread to the entire area.

This is evident by the fact that a couple of old trees lying partially burnt, while the fire has also destroyed the vegetation.

What’s surprising to note is that neither the fire brigade has come to extinguish the fire nor have any of the authorities descended on the ground to ascertain whether anyone has played mischief by setting fire or whether the area is gutted by an accidental fire.

“I have been a regular traveller on the old Hospicio road. What I have come across near the area just outside the cemetery compound wall smoke odour emanating out. When I just made a casual halt, I came across burnt marks on the tree barks. This must have occurred may be last week, but one can sense the smoke odour emanating from the place,” the resident informed.
