Porvorim
More than two hundred people gathered at the Porvorim police station demanding the arrest of United Porvorim Citizens Forum (UPCF) president, Wilbur Ticlo for having threatened contractor Mushtak Ahmed and his supervisor John with dire consequences and also for damaging the JCB machine.
When contacted, contractor Mushtak Ahmed mentioned that he was carrying out the work of widening of road at Socorro as per the directions of the Socorro panchayat when social activist Ticlo arrived along with his associates and directed him to stop the work.
Ahmed then told Ticlo that he had been entrusted the work of road widening by the Socorro panchayat and that he has all the necessary documents. “Despite this, he forced us to stop the work and threatened us with dire consequences. His associates also damaged the JCB machine,” said Ahmed adding that he has filed a complaint to this effect with the Porvorim Police station.
The sarpanch of Socorro panchayat Sandeep Vazarkar also filed a complaint against Ticlo along similar lines.
Vazarker also mentioned that the panchayat had sanctioned the work of road widening from Socorro church to Vadem after completing all the legal formalities. The resolution to this effect was also obtained at the gram sabha. “Vehicular traffic has increased immensely at Socorro in recent years and hence the widening of internal roads has become imperative. But the said social activist is unnecessarily creating obstructions and hence the people from Socorro thronged to the police station to demand the arrest of Wilbur Ticlo,” Vazarkar informed.
Meanwhile police sources confirmed having receiving received complaints from the contractor and the sarpanch of Socorro panchayat and have asked Ticlo to report to the police station but so far he has not turned up.

Porvorim PI knocks on Ticlo’s doors at 9.30 pm, finds only his 15-yr-old at home
MAPUSA: The Socorro hill cutting incident took a strange turn late Sunday evening with some locals putting pressure on Porvorim Police to take action against UPCF president Wilbur Ticlo.
The UPCF president informed The Goan that he received a call from the Porvorim Police Station at around 8.30 pm asking him to immediately report to the police station.
“Some members of UPCF and I were at the police station till around 5.30 pm pursuing the matter of the hill cutting. In fact, police had stopped the hill cutting work and had asked the owners to produce relevant documents. I was taken aback with the call from the Porvorim police when I was there till late evening,” said Ticlo, who was away from his residence at the time.
Subsequently, Porvorim PI Paresh Naik went in search of Ticlo to his residence at Carrem, Socorro. “Finding that I was not at home, the PI called me from my residence phone at around 9.30 pm,” Ticlo said. “My 15-year-old daughter was alone at home along with the maid,” he added.
It may be recalled The Goan had reported on the Socorro hill cutting incident on Sunday (March 4). In the report UPCF President, Wilbur Ticlo had claimed that the hill cutting was illegal and was being undertaken without proper approvals.
