Some gram sabha members demand stop to open beef sale at Rumdamol

MARGAO
Controversial beef issue raised its head at the communally sensitive Rumdamol village gram sabha on Sunday with a group of members demanding a stop to the open sale of beef meat in the village.

At the gram sabha chaired by Mubeena Fanibhand, members demanded to know why the beef stalls in the village continue to display the beef meat against the directions of the district Collector to ensure there’s no open display of the meat at the stalls.

Members, including Bhagwan Redkar pointed out that the Collector’s order is not being implemented by the beef stall owners, with the meat displayed for sale openly in the village.

Rumdamol Panch Vinayak Volvoikar pointed out that the members are not against the consumption of beef per se by any community, but have only asked the panchayat to ensure there’s no display of beef in the open and against the sentiments of members of the majority community.

Some of the members have given the panchayat one month’s time to address the issue.
