Hitting out at some councillors for moving the no-confidence motion against MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar and Vice Chairperson Shashikant Parab, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Councillor Krishna Daji Salkar on Friday said the justifications for the no-confidence motion were flawed.
“It is very unfortunate and not a single point mentioned in the no-confidence motion is correct. We had taken charge in the last six months and we proved to the people of Vasco that this was a pro-development council by undertaking huge development works in the last six months, something which had never happened in the last three years,” said Salkar, while speaking to The Goan.
“The MMC had just begun taking up huge development works across all wards and clearing major long pending projects like the Vasco fish market, Baina Powerhouse commercial complex, Chief officer bungalow and other projects.”
“Some councillors of the ruling panel have political aspirations and ambitions and were probably lured by the opposition panel to pass the no-confidence motion,” alleged
Salkar.
Salkar went on to suggest that some either did not want Vasco to be developed and had gone ahead with the no-confidence
motion.
“Today in my ward, gardens have been renovated and tree plantation drives have been taken up, while old fish markets which had become a godown to stock goods, have been
renovated.”
“We had plans to shift the vegetable and fruit vendors to one dedicated location. People are happy and have benefited from our anti-encroachment drive.”
“But despite all of this, if someone moves a no-confidence motion, it only proves their interests and intentions to stop development of Vasco,” said
Salkar.
He alleged that those who had moved the no-confidence motion are anti-development and were jealous about their achievements in the port town. “It is extremely unfortunate that some councillors who may have political aspirations and ambitions have come together to sign the no-confidence motion with a motto to stop development works, at a time when Vasco needs it the most,” he added.
