Sonsodo being considered for state-of-art Plasma Gasification Plant Project

MARGAO

Sonsodo could well emerge as the site for the setting up of a state-of-the-art pilot project on Plasma Gasification Plant based on RDF to generate electricity if the project finds favor with the officials of the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA), Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), besides the Margao Municipal Council.

In fact, officials of these agencies, including the Margao Municipal, are all heading to Pune where the project on plasma gasification plant based on RDF is in operation.

In fact, GEDA is in receipt of a proposal from Pune-based M/s GD Environmental Pvt. Ltd., Pune, (GDEPL) on a Gasification Plant based on RDF/MSW (w/o electricity generation). The company is believed to have informed GEDA that it has installed as many as six TPD Plasma Gasification Plants in Pune. Sonsodo is being zeroed in by GEDA to set up the plant after the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) maintained that it does not have land at Saligao SWMF and Cacora SWMF to set up the proposed project.

The team of officials will carry out the field visit to Pune to verify the operational status and compliance with environmental regulations.

“Based on the field visit by officials of GWMC, GSUDA, MMC, GSPCB, and GEDA, further decisions will be taken on the project,” informed GEDA Managing Director Sanjeev Joglekar.

The Pune-based company is believed to have informed the GEDA Member Secretary that it will proceed to prepare a Detailed Project Proposal for the Tri Fusion Reactor (TFR).

Meanwhile, Friday’s Margao Municipal Council meeting gave a nod to send a team of officials to Pune along with Sanitation committee Chairperson Camilo Barretto. The Council also gave a host of approvals for the installation of a fire hydrant system and construction of a wall at Sonsodo.

The Council also gave its nod for the procurement of three trucks for the transportation of wet waste. The MMC also granted approval to buy a portable machine for the treatment of green and vegetable waste.
