MARGAO
Even as the Congress and Goa Forward-backed Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira has stuck to the alternate land at Sirvodem-Khareband for the proposed kabrastan, Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes, in a major decision has lodged the civic body’s objection to the draft-ODP 2031 showing the Sonsodo land as low-cost housing and orchard zone when the land was acquired by the civic body for the purpose of burial ground for the Muslim community.
Days after the Director, Urban Development, Gurudas Pilarnekar lodged the government objection to the draft-Margao ODP 2031 showing the Sonsodo land as low-cost housing and orchard, the MMC Chief Officer filed his objection against the draft-ODP.
In his objection, the MMC Chief Officer drew attention of the SGDPA Member Secretary that the development/ construction of the burial ground for the land admeasuring 30,191 sq mtrs bearing chalta no. 50 and 49/1 (part) is pending before the High Court of Bombay at Goa in the PILWP/60/2019.
The Chief Officer further pointed out that the Council has taken a stand of allotment of land in question to the Muslim community.
“It is to inform you that the land admeasuring 30,191 sq mtrs bearing chalta no.1 PT Sheet No. 50 and 49/1 (part), which the government has exclusively acquired for the burial ground of the Muslim community, has been now depicted as an orchard, installation of a KV substation and low-cost housing in draft-ODP,” the Chief Officer said.
The Chief Officer makes it categorically stating that he takes very strong objection and vehemently opposes the inclusion of the proposal current Draft ODP 2031 with reference to the Chalta No. 1 PT Sheet 50 and 49/1(p) at Sonsodo, Margao, Salcete-Goa shown as KV substation and low-cost housing and rest area shown as orchard zone.
The Chief Officer’s objection to the draft-ODP 2031 has come against the backdrop of the stand taken by the Congress-Goa Forward party-backed MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira that the previous Council had adopted a resolution to set up the kabrastan at Sirvodem-Khareband.
