MARGAO
The Sonsodo imbroglio, parking woes and to deck up the Margao Municipal building with a fresh coat of paint were some of the issues that may receive priority from the newly-elected Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira and his team.
This became evident at a meeting held on Saturday which was attended amongst others by the new Chairperson, the MLAs of Margao and Fatorda Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai, besides the officials of the Municipal technical section.
The meeting explored various options, both short and long term measures to address some of the burning issues playing the city.
The participants reviewed the situation at Sonsodo, including the issue of garbage collection and disposal and how to go about addressing the burning issue, both short and long term solutions.
Sources said the Municipal Chairperson and the MLAs are expected to visit Sonsodo next week to get first-hand knowledge of the present situation at the waste dumping site.
Lyndon said the municipality as well as the MLAs will discuss the garbage issue with the Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo to explore solutions to the waste imbroglio.
On the parking front, the meeting took a review of the status of the multi-level parking project file with the technical section. Both Kamat and Sardesai have taken up the responsibility to get the file cleared from the PWD at the earliest so that the multi-level parking project is re-tendered.
