PANAJI: The post department is planning to provide export facility at Panaji Post office for small scale exporters from next month as the Customs department has almost approved the move to work with the postal department in this regard.
“We are going to start export through post. We have had an initial discussion with the Commissioner of Customs and he has given us approval,” said Dr. N. Vinod Kumar, Post Master General-Goa Region on Thursday.
Currently, small exporters from Goa have to go to Mumbai for custom examination of their parcels because only after custom approval can exporters claim for GST benefit by way of refund or rebate.
"Now there will be facility in the Panaji post office itself where custom officials will be present to examine the parcel and issue the necessary documents to the exporters," informed Dr. Kumar.
"This will enable small exporters to use the postal channel for export," he added.
Meanwhile, the Indian post is also organising a 3-day philately exhibition "Goapex 2019" from 9th to 11th February from 10 am to 7 pm at Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji.
"Three special covers on the Olive Ridley turtle, a species of big turtles which lay eggs on some Goan beaches, Forts of Goa and Ghumat, a traditional musical instrument of Goa will be issued during the exhibition," informed Dr. Kumar.
Around 12 philatelists from Goa and outside are expected to display their valuable collection at the exhibition. A souvenir containing a catalogue of exhibits and articles on philately will be published on the occassion.
South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar along with wild life warden Santosh Kumar, Dr. Nandkumar Kamat will be present for the inaugural session of the exhibition.
Tourism minister Manohar Azgaonkar, Art and culture minister Govind Gawde will be present for functions to be held on the second and third day of the exhibition.
