As part of its ongoing Road Safety & Traffic Management Campaign, GOACAN organised a Road Safety Awareness Action today at Nuvem in collaboration with the Consumer Welfare Club (CWC) and Road Safety Patrol (RSP) of Carmel Higher Secondary School, the Consumer Welfare Cell (CWC) of Carmel College and the Margao Traffic Police Cell.
Higher secondary and college students armed with placards & banners with slogans on the importance of wearing a helmet by two-wheeler riders and the seat belt by four wheeler drivers & co-passengers. The other issues highlighted were the dangers of the use of mobile phones while riding & driving and the need to respect the pedestrian at zebra crossings. The students carrying colorful flags alerted riders & drivers on the need to reduce speed and thereby reduce fatal accidents.
At the end of the awareness action, students shared their observations on a large number of two wheeler riders using non ISI mark helmets and a number of riders having proper helmets which were not strapped thereby endangering their lives. They also stated that many riders & drivers appreciated their awareness action on road safety.
The students awareness action was assisted by CWC Co-ordinators Manjusha Talwadkar & Gladys D’Souza, Traffic Police Head Constable Damodar Mistry and GOACAN volunteers Lorna Fernandes, Martin Rodrigues, and Roland Martins.
