Anjuna police have arrested a South African national in Mumbai on charges of molesting a female tourist from Thane-Maharashtra in a hotel room at Vagator over two years ago.
According to police, the incident had taken place on March 8, 2021, when the complainant had checked into a hotel at Vagator. The accused, Victor van Niekerk, was a musician in the same hotel.
Finding the complainant alone in the room, the accused is alleged to have put his hand over her mouth. The accused escaped when the woman broke free from the suspect's grip and raised an alarm.
The Anjuna police had registered a case under Sections 448, 323, 354 of IPC. Despite a search, police could not locate the accused.
The police then got information that the accused was in Mumbai. Accordingly, a police team rushed to Mumbai and with the assistance of the Mumbai police, traced the suspect and arrested him at Colaba.
Anjuna Police Inspector Prashal Naik Desai, PSI Tukaram Pednekar, Constable Dipesh Chodankar and Aniket Pednekar were involved in nabbing the accused.
