MAPUSA

Stating that a tender of Rs 250 crore for the Saligao substation project has been passed, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has said work on the project would be started within two months.

He was addressing a gathering after launching work on the underground cabling work at Assagao on Friday.

He also launched work on the underground cabling work at Anjuna in the presence of local MLA Delilah Lobo, executive engineer Subhash Parsekar, Assagao sarpanch Hanumant Naik, Anjuna-Kaisuv sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar and other panchayat members.

“Once the Saligao power substation is completed, the power supply in Mapusa, Siolim, Saligao and Calangute will be streamlined. The underground cabling work at Anjuna and Assagao is being taken up at a cost of Rs 23 crore and actual work on this project would start only after the monsoon,” said Dhavalikar.

He informed that works worth Rs 40-100 crore have been undertaken in each constituency across the State.

“The government is changing old electricity conductors installed in 1963-65. By 2027, HT cables in forest, agriculture, coastal and urban areas will be totally underground,” said Dhavalikar.

The minister also stated that an agency has been appointed to repair the roads at Mapusa and Mandrem.

“Work tenders have been floated and the PWD engineers should get the work completed. The government has banned tarring of the roads during the monsoon and so, hotmixing of roads in the State will begin only after November 15,” said Dhavalikar.

MLA Delilah Lobo said power issues in Assagao and Anjuna would be resolved with the underground cabling.

“Citizens have to bear for some time, and the road will be repaired once the cabling work is completed. The file for the road repairs has already got sanction,” she added.
