South Collector clarifies on R-Day contribution row

MARGAO

A note issued by the South Goa Collectorate asking the officials and subordinate Staff to "compulsorily" contribute an amount of Rs 1,000 for a cultural programme on Republic Day for the special people of Salcete has kicked up a row of sorts.

The Collector, however, has clarified that the contribution by the officials and staff will be purely voluntary and the initial note stands corrected.

The programme was proposed in line with the cultural programme for special people conducted on Liberation Day 2019 since it was the desire of the Collector along with all the Officers and the Staff of the Collectorate, South Goa District, to continue the same tradition on 26 January 2023.

A section of officials and staff, however, questioned the compulsory contribution of Rs 1,000 for the programme.

Collector Jyoti Kumari has informed that the note stands corrected and the contribution from the officials and staff is purely voluntary.
