Changes in the timings of the High Court has evoked opposition from the South Goa Advocates Association, with members of the Bar in one voice saying the new timings are inconvenient for the lawyers and the litigants from South Goa.
Members of the SGAA which met in the Bar room in the old court building under the Chairmanship of Association President Antonio Clovis Da Costa said the timings go against the lawyers from South Goa who intend to start the practice in the High Court.
He said the body has unanimously objected to the change in the High Court timings as the same is inconvenient for lawyers and litigants from South Goa and that the same has been done without consultations of the Bar associations across the State.
Adv Clovis Da Costa pointed out that the meeting has resolved to make a representation to the Administrative Judge of the Bombay High Court at Panaji to revert to the old timings.
Members of the South Goa Advocates Association pointed out that the change in the timings of the first session goes against the lawyers and litigants from South Goa as they will have to either catch public vehicles early mornings or hire vehicles, leaving them inconvenienced.
“Just imagine the fate of a lawyer or litigant hailing from Canacona if one goes by the change in timings. They will have to wake up early morning and ensure that they reach Panaji before 9 am. This will only create hardships for both the litigants and the lawyers,” an association member told The Goan.
Unlike the past, sources in the know said many a young lawyer from South Goa now prefer to practice in the High Court. The change in timings will affect these budding lawyers the most, sources added.
