In an interesting development, the Administrator of the South Goa Comunidades, Mangaldas Gaonkar, who had proceeded on leave, has resumed charge of office on Thursday.
The Goan had on Thursday highlighted how the charge of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades has been given to the Cuncolim Municipal Chief Officer John Fernandes after the regular administrator proceeded on two weeks leave from Monday.
Components of South Goa Comunidades had demanded a full-time Administrator of Comunidades for South Goa, more so that the Comunidade bodies in South Zone will go for elections in the month of December and January, beginning from December 8.
In fact, many questions were raised in administration circles how come the Administrator of Commnidades has proceeded on leave in the run up to the elections for the Comunidade bodies in South zone. That’s not all. Questions were further raised how come the district authorities had given the charge of the Administrator’s office to the Cuncolim Municipal Chief Officer, John Fernandes, when he was already holding additional charge of Curchorem Municipal Council.
Senior district Collectorate officials, sources said, has taken serious cognisance of the Administrator proceeding on leave in the run up to the elections.
Meanwhile, Members of the South Goa Comunidades Forum has demanded to know how come elections for the Comunidade bodies in South Goa will start only from December 8 and not from December 1. They demanded an explanation from the South Goa Administrator of Comunidade and the reasons for not holding the elections from December 1 when comunidade in other zones will begin their election process from December 1.
Elections for the Comunidade bodies will begin from the first Sunday of December, which falls on December 1. In the case of the Comunidade bodies in South zone, the election process will kick-start only on December 8 and will continue till January.
