Asserting that the police were regularly on the look out for the three accused in the Mungul case who surrendered to the police on Friday, South Goa district Superintendent of police, Tikam Singh Verma has said the police would definitely inquire if there was any lapse in the police investigations.
The district police Chief made the statement in the wake of the statement made by the lawyer representing the three accused that the trio have all been staying at their respective place of residence and have surrendered to the police only after receiving a look out notice.
When the media asked the SP, South to shed light on the lawyer’s statement, Tikam Singh said the police have been regularly checking the residences of the trio before their surrender. “But, the police will certainly inquiry if there was any lapse in the investigations”, he added.
To a question, the SP, South pointed out that the accused persons wanted to take revenge on the leader of the rival gang due to previous enmity between them. “There were some personal grudges between them arising out of previous enmity. Hence, the accused persons hatched a plot to attack the rival group”, he added. Saying that the Fatorda police has attached a pistol, koita and other sharp weapons used in the attempt to murder case, besides vehicles, the SP South said the police has almost all the accused wanted in the case with the arrest of the trio, taking the number of arrests to 28. The Fatorda police is investigating.
