The South Goa Zilla panchayat on Wednesday has decided to beat the election code expected to come into force anytime by year-end or early January by expediting the ongoing tendering process.
The meeting also resolved to take the Zilla Panchayat bhavan project, mooted by the South Goa Zilla panchayat to its logical conclusion.
At the meeting chaired by Chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar on Wednesday, the Zilla Panchayat members were requested to get their works done through the officials and contractors before the election code comes into force.
The ZP chairperson said most of the tendered works can be executed before the code comes into force if the members also get the successful bidders to submit their performance guarantee on priority. “We have to take into account the election code that is expected to come into force anytime by the year-end of early January. Hence, we have to ensure that all the documents are submitted by the successful bidders so that the office can issue work order to the contractor at the earliest," she said.
Later briefing the media, Suvarna said the ZP had floated around 141 tenders after receiving the government funds to the tune of Rs 13-14 crore. While work has commenced on some of the projects, she said the Zilla Panchayat is preparing new files in order to float new tenders in the coming day.
The chairperson pointed out that the ZP members representing Borim and Bethora have called for toning up the health infrastructure and logistics on priority. The Borim ZP has also demanded posting of a full-time doctor and a 108 ambulance to cater to the requirements.
To a question, the ZP chairperson said the ZP is pursing the Zilla Panchayat bhavan proposal with the Town and Country Planning Department before the government sets in motion the proposal for land acquisition for the project.
