A day after the Gram Sabha of Loliem-Polem unanimously rejected the Film City proposal along with 12 other projects, Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar slammed those opposing the “green project” while stating that they are crucial for local employment generation.

Speaking to media persons, Tawadkar extended his support to the Film City project and maintained that the government would consult with locals and the panchayat before making any final decision.

“I am in favour of the Film City. It has to come. Some people oppose development just for the sake of it. The idea is still premature, the government would consult with locals and the panchayat before making any final decision,” he said.

Tawadkar said that one has to support green projects like Film city which will also help in employment generation. “Today we see employment issues across Goa and if some green projects that will generate employment are being promoted, we have to support it,” he said.

“Opposition to such project…Does this mean our youths have no right to survive…you need jobs,” he said.

He said that there are many villagers supporting the project and they will stand up at the right time.

During the gram sabha meeting held on Sunday, the villagers argued that the projects, including a cricket stadium, solar power plant and fruit processing units, threaten the plateau’s ecological balance and violate long-standing resolutions.
