Speaker leads delegation of stakeholders to meet CM

Speaker leads delegation of stakeholders to meet CM Chief Minister Pramod Sawant engaged in discussions with a panel led by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar.

CANACONA

A delegation of aggrieved stakeholders led by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and sought his intervention on Friday, even as 27 more tourism establishments were sealed at Agonda on the second day of a drive to seal 67 tourism establishments on the orders of the high court.

An equal number of structures had been sealed on Thursday.

According to a person present at the meeting, the Chief Minister is reported to have assured Tawadkar that the situation would be resolved quickly and in conjunction with the authorities concerned, by taking Tawadkar into confidence.

Khuswant Bhagat, Estev Rodrigues, Vijay Komarpant, Gaurav Bhagat, Suraj Naikgaunkar, and the recently elected Canacona BJP Mandal President Prabhakar Gaonkar were among those present during the meeting.

Earlier on Friday morning, a team led by Canacona Dy Collector Madhu Narvekar visited the southern side of Agonda beach, only to be engaged by a couple of disgruntled tourism stakeholders, thereby delaying the drive to seal the establishments on Friday morning.

The stakeholders argued that their private property was wrongly included in the list by the petitioner of a PIL in the High Court and that their private structures were in no way connected with the PIL.

After prolonged discussions, officials went ahead and continued with the sealing process.

By the end of the day, 27 tourism structures/establishments were sealed by the staff of Nodal Officer Canacona BDO Savio Carvalho and panchayat secretaries Amol K. Naikgaunkar and Sushant Lolayekar.

The team is expected to continue with the drive to seal the remaining structures on Saturday morning.

With this, a total of 54 tourism establishments out of the 67 establishments have been sealed since Thursday.
