Speaker revives initiative to build houses in Wayanad

CANACONA

The Wayanad disaster is still fresh in people’s minds, as is the announcement by Goa Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar. As part of his well-known ‘Shram-Dham’ initiative, he had promised to build houses for those in Wayanad, Kerala, who lost their homes.

He made this announcement during the assembly session in early August last year, stating that his Balaram Charitable Trust would work with 200 volunteers to construct 10 houses in the landslide-affected areas. However, after the announcement, Tawadkar was unable to follow through with his plan due to the Lok Sabha elections.

On Saturday, he left for Wayanad. According to sources, he will first meet Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar. After assessing the situation, he is expected to decide on the next steps for building the houses.
