Special anti-rabies campaign to begin in Bardez from February 23-27

Mission Rabies will conduct a five-day special vaccination campaign in Bardez taluka from February 23 to 27 to vaccinate dogs and prevent the spread of rabies.

Animal Husbandry Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar launched the campaign at Gyanprasarak High School in Mapusa on Friday in the presence of Deputy Speaker Joshua D’Souza, Director of the Animal Husbandry Department Dr Nitin Naik, Dr Murugan Appupilai (Director for Education, Mission Rabies), Dr Stacy Sequeira (Director, WVS HICKS ITC), Julie Corfmat (Director, Animal Welfare), President of Goa Animal Federation K D Rao, and Sandesh Godvi of Miramar Rotary Club.

The campaign has been organised by the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services and Worldwide Veterinary Services–Mission Rabies to increase public awareness about rabies and highlight the importance of vaccination.

In his address, Halarnkar said Goa is a notified rabies-controlled state but added that public cooperation is vital to eradicate the disease. Julie Corfmat said 36 teams have been formed for Bardez taluka, and anti-rabies vaccination will be given to both domestic and stray dogs.

During the programme, students of Kala Akademy presented street plays to spread awareness about rabies.
