MAPUSA:
Director of Urban Development, J Ashok Kumar, has issued a notice to all the elected councilors of the MMC stating that a special meeting will be held on May 3 in order to elect the chairperson of the council. The director of urban development has issued the notice under Section 52 of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.
Chief Officer Bicholim Municipal Council, Shripad Arlekar, has been appointed as the presiding officer to conduct the special council meeting.
Nominations for the post of chairperson can be submitted to the chief officer of Mapusa Municipal Council, Clen Madeira, by May 2 before noon.
Sources said the election of the chairperson will be a cakewalk for the nominee of the ruling BJP panel which has 16 councilors. Leaving Madhumita Narverkar out, the other three independent councilors have been supporting the ruling group.
