A speeding ride on a KTM bike on the eve of his birthday proved to be a bad experience for 23-year-old Diptesh Rane from Sada who got trapped by some iron rods after skidding off the road in the wee hours of Sunday.
According to information available, Rane was speeding on a KTM bike bearing registration number KA-02-JC-91 along with his friend Sufir Ali Khan of GRB Colony but as they reached an area near IOC Colony near Bogda, the bike skidded and both fell off the bike.
Rane however fell directly onto some exposed iron rods at an under-construction gutter at Bogda with the rods passing through his legs trapping him for over two hours.
Pillion rider Khan suffered minor injuries escaping with some cuts and bruises, but Rane could not move as the iron rods had passed through his right leg trapping him there.
According to Fire Officer Dilip Bicholkar, the fire department received a call from Bogda police station at around 1.30 am.
"We were informed that two boys had met with a self-accident and the rider was trapped and could not move," said Bicholkar, adding, "We then had to cut the rod using a hydraulic cutter. Both the boys were later shifted to GMC in a 108 ambulance."
