Headline: Spiritual book translated to Konkani

The need for people to live a value based life was the highlight at the recent launch of the Konkani translated English book Ubuntu- The Spirit of Humanity. Released by well known Konkani writer Damodar Mauzo, the book aims to highlight the importance of connecting with people for a better society. Mauzo highlighted that though children were today being educated, they were lacking in quality education.
“Today the pride of speaking in Konkani is becoming less but it is with books like these that that may change. It defines the spirit of humanity and will go a long way in restoring it. Today, we are loosing values and though we speak of a value based education we lack in making it true for children; we prepare them only for exams,” he said.
Progress, he said, was only able to be achieved if the focus was shifted from the material to values.
The book written by Helen Sayers was first published in 2009 and has since been translated into French, Spanish, Arabic and works are underway for the Italian version. The Konkani translation was initiated by the late Madhavi Sardesai years ago, said Sayers adding that she would always be remembered with the book.
Sayers along with Peace Cottage, Betalbatim founder Elenor Viegas have conducted several workshops across the state. The Government Polytechnic College had one such workshop on Wednesday with Principal Luis Fernandes praising Sayers work emphasizing on the need for value education and the benefit it had on the society at large.
