Goa is actively promoting its traditional sports, which include Atya Patya, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Tenni-koit, and Mallakhamb. These games are supported by the Sports Authority of Goa through various sports associations.
To boost the visibility and participation in these traditional sports, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs organised a special Indigenous Sports Festival during the Fit India Week. This event featured traditional games such as Kabaddi, Logori, Langadi, and Yogasana. The aim is to celebrate and preserve Goa’s rich sporting heritage.
Additionally, the Sports Authority of Goa provides essential support to sports associations and clubs to organise tournaments. These efforts have not only enhanced local engagement but have also helped Goan players perform well in national competitions.
Looking ahead to 2024, the calendar of events for traditional games is typically set by the respective sports associations. However, as of now, the Sports Authority of Goa has not received any calendar of events for traditional sports for the upcoming year.
