SSCE assessment: Focus on students’ Std 9 performance

PANAJI

A proposal to give weightage to class IX performance in the assessment module for this year's SSC students came up in the deliberations of the academic council of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBS&HSE) which met on Thursday.

Board chairman, Bhagirath Shetye, however, said there was no finality to the deliberations yet and the minutes of the Thursday meeting are yet to be compiled and approved.

Days after cancellation of the SSC public examination due to Covid-19 pandemic, the academic council of GBS&HSE met on Thursday and deliberated on the assessment module for the SSCE.

The Board has broadly decided to count the internal marks obtained by the students through the year.

In Thursday's deliberations, members of the Council discussed giving weightage to the students' performance in the previous academic year, that is Class IX.

Shetye, however, declined to speak on the subject saying the minutes of Thursday's meeting are yet to be prepared and approved.

The Board, meanwhile, has also decided to hold a physical examination -- an entrance test of sorts -- for those opting for the Science Stream and also those opting for technical diploma courses.

The class X and XII examinations are crucial milestones in a child's academic career and were slated to be held by the autonomous GBS&HSE from mid-April through May but were indefinitely postponed following the Covid-19 surge in cases.

Education Boards of other States and also Central Boards including ICSE and CBSE had also cancelled the class X matriculation exam and opted for an alternative module to evaluate the students.

Meanwhile no decision is yet forthcoming on the conduct of HSSC (Class XII) examination from the Board.
