The Health Department has declared mucormycosis as a notifiable disease under the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Health Act, 1985 throughout the State of Goa.
As per the Section 59 of the Act, any medical practitioner, every manager of any factory or public building, every keeper of a lodging house, every head of a family and every owner or occupier of a house, who is in the know about any patient suffering from or who has died of this disease, whether in a private or government setup are bound by this Act to report it to the concerned health officer or to the village sarpanch without any delay.
According to the information disclosed by the Health Department as on May 25, a total of 10 patients of mucormycosis were being treated at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim, two of whom eventually passed away.
