St Andre MLA demands closure of GMC subway

OLD GOA

Even as the GMC subway flooded in continuous downpour on Monday, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar has demanded that the subway be closed for traffic and pedestrians before any untoward incident occurs.

“The subway floods during heavy rains as there is no drainage or outlet for the rainwater to drain. Therefore, the subway should be closed as it becomes a threat to those using it,” Borkar stated.

“I have already conveyed my demand to the GSIDC on the need to close the subway during heavy rains. I have also demanded that authorities come up with some plan for draining the rainwater,” Borkar informed.

“For the moment, they are using pumps to pump out the water but the pumps stopped working after they went underwater,” Borkar stated and opined the need for a long-term solution to solve the annual problem.
