MARGAO
Agxem SC edged past SFX Camarxet 1-0 to clinch the Jose and Franky Memorial football title. In the final of the tournament organised by Sporting Club of Virabhat at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, the teams played attacking soccer and Camarxet had their first chance to score when Cyril Rodrigues' shot was well saved by the Agxem goalkeeper.
Agxem scored through Nickson Castanha in the 18th minute to make it 1-0 in first half. In second half, Camarxet tried their best to equalise but a strong defence led by Manuel Castanha didn't allow them to score. Camarxet were unlucky when James Fernandes' header hit the crossbar and went out of play. The match ended 1-0 in favour of Agxem SC.
Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco, the Curtorim MLA and chairman of GIDC, was the chief guest along with guests of honour, Armando Colaco (ex Dempo & India coach), Fr Joseph Salema (parish priest), Fr Lourdinho Pereira (asst parish priest), Milagris Rodrigues (Ex-sarpanch, VP Curtorim), Wilson Pacheco (ex-Curtorim Gymkhana player), and gave away the prizes.
