Terming Monserrate as ‘B team of BJP’, the St Cruz Congress block has expressed fear that the fallout of Monserrate’s hobnobbing could result in defeat of the party in more than one constituency.
By Sunday, the St Cruz Congress block workers claimed to have reached out to over 5,000 constituents with the recently unveiled chargesheet against BJP being distributed to majority of the households in St Cruz.
The forerunners for Congress ticket in St Cruz presently include Mahila Congress general secretary Helena Domingos Lourenco, Mulla, Narvekar and Pereira.
It may be recalled that St Cruz sitting MLA Monserrate was expelled from Congress for six years in March 2015 by All India Congress Committee for anti-party activities during the Panaji bye-polls.
The party, however, continues to view St Cruz as a traditional Congress seat and continues to bank on a vote bank of around 5,000 to 6,000.
