A delegation of kiosk owners along with St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at the Secretariat in Porvorim on Wednesday to seek his intervention for the rehabilitation of kiosks that were demolished outside the GMC hospital complex.
Speaking after the meeting, MLA Fernandes said Sawant has assured that the government will help rehabilitate the kiosk owners whose kiosks were demolished and who are yet to be rehabilitated even after three months.
“On Thursday, there will be a meeting with the chief minister, which will be attended by the PWD principal chief engineer, North Goa Collector, St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira, myself and representatives of affected kiosk owners from St Cruz and St Andre,” Fernandes said.
“During the meeting, an alternate plan will be chalked out on the best way to accommodate the rest of the kiosk owners and vendors in the remaining space available,” Fernandes added.
St Cruz local Domnic Pereira informed that the CM has assured help to rehabilitate the remaining kiosk owners and vendors.
“As we had not taken prior appointment, we could meet the CM for a brief moment in which we sought his intervention to rehabilitate us,” Pereira added and informed that the CM assured his help.
It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted that the St Cruz MLA’s plan was in jeopardy after five Deendayal kiosk owners were rehabilitated in part of the same area where the rehabilitation plan was chalked out.
Of the total 80 square metres, around 20 sq. mtrs is already taken up for rehabilitation of the five Deendayal kiosk owners and the rest of the 33 kiosk owners and vendors have to be rehabilitated in the remaining 60 sq mtrs available.
