Penha de Franca p'yat gets 104 CCTV cameras

PORVORIM

The Penha de Franca panchayat has purchased 104 CCTV cameras to monitor those throwing garbage in open spaces and to detect crimes in the village.

The first such CCTV camera and monitor was installed by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte at the Nana Nani Park in the presence of all members of Penha de Franca panchayat.

Speaking on the occasion, Khaunte said the panchayat collects garbage every day on a door-to-door basis through a contractor appointed for the purpose.

“However, it has been observed that some people dump garbage in open spaces and heaps of garbage are seen at various places in Porvorim, defeating the objective of maintaining cleanliness in the village. Besides, crimes are on the rise in Porvorim.”

“Hence, the Penha de Franca Panchayat decided to install CCTV cameras at strategic locations in Porvorim in consultation with Porvorim Police. This will help authorities identify people who throw garbage in open spaces and take suitable action against them. These CCTV cameras will also help police in the detection of crimes,” said Khaunte.

Panch member Shamsunder Kamat said the panchayat purchased 104 CCTV cameras through funds received from the Central government under the 14th Finance Commission.

“The first CCTV camera has been installed at the Nana Nani Park and the remaining 103 CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic locations in the village,” said Kamat.

“The panchayat also discussed this matter with Porvorim Police, and certain locations were suggested for the installation of CCTV cameras. Initially, four monitors will be installed at the Nana Nani Park, police station, panchayat office and the science and community park,” said Kamat.
