Though most of the people whom The Goan spoke to chose to remain anonymous, activist Jose Carmin Joao from Merces said that politicians like Babush Monserratte are jumping monkeys who do no hesitate to jump from one tree to the other for the sake of power. “If Monserratte tries to have his way and contests in St Cruz, then we will extend full support to Rudolf to ensure his victory and teach politicians like Monserratte a lesson,” Joao added.
Further, Joao said that by calling Babush his boss and by stating that he is ready to step down on his orders, MLA Tony has insulted the people of St Cruz since he forgot that people are his boss.
Another supporter of the MLA who did not wished to be named, informed that his support was for the Congress and that he would support Congress in the future too. “Even if Babush contests on BJP ticket, Rudolf Fernandes on a Congress ticket would easily defeat him,” he added.
A panch from Santa Cruz who extended whole-hearted support to Tony was very critical and called the political development in St Cruz as a political circus. “It’s a circus out here and all of us are monkeys,” the panch added.
“Development can be done despite being in opposition. But, sadly it is not the development but the power that the politicians are craving for,” the panch said in disgust and reiterated that it won’t be a cakewalk for Babush even if he contests on BJP ticket.”
