“No material has been brought on record to show that the accused persons created such a situation whereby the deceased was left with no other alternative but to commit suicide. In fact, the suspicion is reported only by the relatives of the deceased and it is not supported by any further material,” the sessions court order reads.
According to the complaint lodged by the father of the deceased, his son was studying at Industrial Training Institute, Bicholim, and was in a relationship with a girl since seven years.
On March 3, 2014, the deceased was assaulted by two of the girl’s family members after the young couple was found in an objectionable position and the matter was settled amicably at Valpoi police station and the deceased and the girl continued to talk over the phone even after this. There is no other material which has been brought on record to show that any incident took place after the matter was settled. On March 8, 2014 at around 7 am that one of the villagers informed the boy’s family that his body had been found floating in river water. After recovering his son’s body, the father filed a complaint against seven members of the girl’s family.
In his order discharging the six accused, session judge B P Deshpande noted, “The investigating agency failed to bring on record any material to show that there was any opposition from the accused persons to the relationship of the deceased with the girl or that any threats were given to
the deceased.”
