Stage set for Shigmotsav celebrations in Margao

Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has been elected as the Samiti President and former Fatorda MLA and State BJP General Secretary Damu Naik as the General Secretary. Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar and MMC Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar has been elected as Senior Vice President and Treasurer respectively. 

Addressing the media, former MLA Damu Naik pointed out that Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti is famous for its uniqueness and attractiveness. He said a total prize money of Rs 10 Lakhs will be awarded to the winners. He said the Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti is the only committee in Goa to award  1st Prize Cash Rs 1 lakh in the 'Chitrarath' category. 

“From the imaginative vision of the Samiti, the artwork of the main platform, the replica of the Sri Ram Janmabhoomi entrance of the new temple building in Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Sri Ramchandra, will be a special attraction. Apart from this, a special awning will be erected so that the lovers of Shigmotsav can have a proper view of the procession. This year, after a gap of many years, Shigmotsav parade has been organized in Margao city in its old traditional way”, he said.

Naik pointed out that government and semi-government individuals who have contributed to the society will be felicitated for their work. Deputy Collector Pratap Gaonkar, Senior Journalist Mahesh Konekar, Teacher (Retired) Pushpa Gaitonde, journalist Suraj Pawar and Sahil Sakli of Margao Traffic Cell.

Another special attraction In this year’s procession, he said, will be that the women troupe from Vasco will perform the Romtamel in traditional dress with drums, tashes, shamels, jhanj and other instruments. 

“Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti is the only organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of traditional culture. Before the start of the Shobhayatra, annual Shree Satyanarayana Maha Puja is organized at the office of the committee and prayers/blessings are taken for the success of the festival by offering Sur-Rot to Rakhandeva.
